The hills were alive with the sound of WADAS

(24.03.06 - Absentees: Nil)

The walk was meticulously planned (at some considerable length) at the Swan Inn, Rowberrow before the hikers were summoned by a bell to set out on their exploration of the Mendips. The party broke away from previously travelled paths to try new routes with spectacular views towards Weston and the shimmering sea beyond. Just a little cool, the weather was ideal for walking through woods and along river banks.

At a predetermined signal the participants donned pointy hats and unrolled a jolly roger table cloth to celebrate Steve's 50th birthday. Other walkers approaching our clearing seemed to avoid the surprise party, giving us a wide berth. We didn't mind, realising that we wouldn't have to offer the delicious minestrone soup to total strangers. It was piping hot (and we scoffed the lot).

Later, in the car park, the half centenarian was treated to an impressive display of warbling by a local swamp band, marble birthday cake, cards and gifts reflecting Steve's enduring appreciation of cats and fast cars.
