Bridgwater and Taunton Canal : 27 December 2005

A walk along the canal from the Boat Inn, Huntworth (junction 24 on the M5) to North Newton stopping at the seventh planet from the sun (there have been far too many references to a certain area of the anatomy in recent posts) to pick up a geocache. WADAS ranks were swelled by several Crosses and a Lewis. The scenery was bathed in light from the low winter sun, which almost totally disappeared while the hikers took welcome refreshment in the second pub (whose name has had to be suppressed to avoid more body part puns). The party returned along the tow path in freezing darkness. Initially estimated at a short afternoon stroll, the walk was officially clocked in at 7.4 miles by GPS. Another triumph for WADAS.

Logo Results

WADAS members and co-opted assessors worked flat out to avoid a bum decision at the Christmas Eve Logo Judging Fest. Despite stiff competition from a beguiling image of Birnbeck Pier (with the Strapline 'WADAS - possibly your last chance'), a clip art collage of beer glasses, dozy map readers/boots and a neo Ahlbergian hiker's catalogue, it was the cheeky image from the Annual Retention Secretary that butted into the lead. "I really needed the absentee voucher" admitted the ARS from Uphill " - can I have it backdated?" This motif, which came from behind to capture the imagination of the panel, will now be rolled out across North Somerset. The new logo will symbolise the aspirations and vision of WADAS as a forward looking body and hopefully we will at last be taken seriously.
