WADAS Sans Frontiers
(21.2.10: Absentees, 3)
The WADAS party went pan European, welcoming a new member from Hildesheim and one lately of Glastonbury. Lena first joined us ten years ago on a twin town exchange and such was the favourable impression of Weston and its surroundings that she returned to take up an internship at Churchill School. Koko treated her first walk with WADAS as a training exercise for a walking marathon to take place during the twilight hours in Birmingham.
We set out from Lena's favourite (Churchill) pub, The Crown Inn, and walked along a scenic route to Sandford (planned by Jo and Steve) and back for another pint at the afore-mentioned.
The weather was fine, with outbreaks of sunshine. However, the recent rain had filled some of the track ruts with water, so Wellington boots were highly prized for certain kinks and bends in the path. The artificial ski slope at Sandford was looking painfully rough in the pale winter light, but fortunately our footsteps took us below, rather than on the piste.
