WADAS Worlebury Woods Walk

The WADAS Worlebury Woods Walk (11 December 05, Absentees: 1) started at the Marine lake where the mist and tide gently lapped at the causeway in a scene reminiscent of 'Watership Down' or was it 'The Third Man'? The WADAS party were seeking higher ground and made their way up into Worlebury Woods, turning opposite the cafe that used to be Casa Nostra. No it was 'Blade Runner'. The group skirted around a new house nestling into the hillside, ducking to avoid the aggressively overhanging eaves. However, there was a more threatening obstacle in store for the hapless hikers. A fallen tree blocked the official WADAS path!

Fortunately, a hastily convened task force rapidly made a root and branch appraisal, proposing a way forward. Actually it was the way forward and involved stepping over some of the dead wood. An earlier recommendation to reduce the WADAS team by 50% was disregarded.

The skirmishing party pressed on up the hill for a surprise attack on the Ancient British Encampment. We were as surprised as anybody. The area had been cleared earlier in the year by the Parks Department to prevent trees interfering with the earth works. WADAS struck with ruthless efficiency, taking no prisoners. A cynic might have remarked that there was nobody there to be taken prisoner, but I can assure you that if there had been they would have most certainly not been taken.

The Old Town Quarry was the next stop since Carol's hideout was, true to its name, hid or perhaps eout. The quarry is home to a notable geocache that has doubled the number of visitors over the last few months. The entrance drive has recently been given another coat of tarmac. However, it did not match up to the magnificent expanse at the Hoe.

On the return leg the WADAS party stopped at Major's for a light refreshing drink after the woodland adventures of the day. The topic of conversation naturally settled on the forthcoming logo competition. It was agreed that the deadline for entries would be extended until December 24th.
